Welcome from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the first newsletter of this academic year. We are excited to implement our plans for further school improvements this year.
You will have noticed the emphasis we are placing on getting the conditions for learning right. This is not just about classroom environments, although this is crucial from the early years (FS1) all the way through to the sixth form (Years 12 and 13). It is also about how we deal with lateness to school in the morning and supporting students to become the best version of themselves.

Please support us in ensuring that your children come to school fully prepared for learning, with the right school uniform and equipment to play a strong part in the success of every lesson. We are very keen to showcase and reward students who support us in this endeavour.

In all sections of this newsletter leaders will share with you important events that have happened and we can celebrate. There may also be information about forthcoming events to look forward to and prepare for. In the meantime, we are keen to embed great learning experiences for all our students, from stay and play sessions in the early years to exploring a diverse range of career opportunities in the upper end of the school.

I would like to thank you for all your support in making this partnership so effective. We have the foundations in place for an exciting and wonderful year ahead.

RSI Director/Principal

The launch of the Early Morning Quran programme took place on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, with more than a thousand students from all educational stages participating. The programme runs from 7:00am to 7:25am. This programme aims to reinforce the Quranic verses that the student has memorized in class, in addition to accelerating and increasing the student's memorization of other Quranic verses.

Celebrating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad :

The Arabic department seized this occasion by offering various activities aimed at introducing students to the biography of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), peace be upon him, and the educational lessons derived from it. Among these activities are:

- Allocating the beginning of Islamic lessons to talk about the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
- Presentations specifically for children that are suitable for their age.

Bravo Bravo – Reading Programme:

The ‘Bravo Bravo’ application is used in the Arabic department from Year 1-10. It is an application that helps refine students' Arabic language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). The teacher assigns weekly exercises to deepen their understanding of skills learned every week and assigns a specific story to read.
The Bravo Bravo application helps learners practice different skills in an enjoyable way, satisfying their curiosity and expanding their imagination.
They engage in educational games that ensure gradual progress in the game and collecting rewards, allowing the student to play and learn at the same time.

Primary School News

Primary has made a strong start to the year after weeks of careful preparation ensuring that all staff were ready to welcome everyone back on the 26th August. Our team consists of over 200 talented teachers and an array of supporting staff including our wonderful Welfare team, all with one purpose: to provide the very best educational experience for your child!

Dubai Police – A day with no Accidents

We were honored to have the police join the Primary building on the first day of term to meet with the pupils and promote safety in the community. We had police mascots and a very cool looking Tesla CyberTracker to entertain and educate our pupils.

Welcome Meetings

The leaders in Primary have been thrilled to welcome so many parents to the school and present our vision for this academic year. It is always a pleasure to hear parents’ feedback which was overwhelmingly positive this year, and to share ideas on how we can improve the experiences for our pupils even more.

Stay and Play in FS!

We had a great turn out for our Stay and Play event in the Foundation Stage classrooms where parents played and had fun with their children. The excitement on the faces of the children was a joy to behold!

The Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday Celebrations

Year 2 students put together an incredible exhibition based on the life of the Prophet Mohammed with details of all aspects of his life. The students and teachers then spent the week sharing all this knowledge with students from Years 1 to 4. Well done to the staff and students in Year 2 that inspired us all with their presentation skills and creativity.

Big Family Events in Y4

We have already hosted several Big Family events where parents come and enjoy breakfast with their children. During these sessions we play games together and get to know our ‘wider’ family. Additionally, parents are able to connect and share their advice and expertise with their peers. Many thanks to the Welfare team for organising such unique and important events!

LWB Activities

The LWB programme is an all-inclusive approach to developing and widening the curriculum offering experiences to all students of SRS outside the normal classroom environment.

Our LWB programme includes a wide range of extra-curricular clubs in primary, junior and secondary including after school clubs, an extensive sports programme, over 30 camping activities annually, overseas trips, opportunities to volunteer for charitable projects, opportunities to help the environment and economic based activities and projects. We believe participating in the LWB programme will promote student confidence, develop their social skills and encourage lifelong learning. Research has shown that ‘busy ‘or ‘active’ children achieve as well if not better than those solely focused on academic pursuits. Parents should support their children in choosing the right activities for themselves.

Exclusive News From LWB

To make school trip payment easier, our online payment service is now available from 20th September 2024.

New and exciting camping experiences this year in Hatta, khorfakkan and Kalba!

UK Secondary School News

We have kickstarted the new academic year in SRS Secondary UK with a series of assemblies for students in Year 7 through to Year 13, announcing the key policies that will ensure our school remains a stable and harmonious environment – one that is conducive to strong academic outcomes.

Furthermore, we have also seen some outstanding records of achievement right from the outset, with classes such as Year 8 Silver going above and beyond, demonstrating excellent attainment, and showcasing their talents across a range of different subjects.

What is particularly noticeable in SRS Secondary UK is the behaviour for learning, with students lining up at the commencement of each session, and where students and teachers are demonstrating mutual respect. Our students have taken admirably to the new routines, meaning that they are almost always on time for lessons and that very little learning is lost through the transitions.

From the 9th to 13th of September, students have also demonstrated discipline and resilience as they sat their first assessments of the year – the CAT4 tests in English, Mathematics, and Science. These crucial assessments will give teachers an understanding of students’ academic levels, allowing them to teach as effectively as possible, and make progress with their classes. Furthermore, students have also been completing their baseline assessments in a range of other subjects, and by all accounts the scores thus far are some of the best we have ever witnessed at SRS.
In other news, there has been a large range of extracurricular events on offer – and not only for students, but for parents as well. The Big Family events allow parents to visit the school and meet with key members of the Welfare Department. Our students have been engaged in our series of clubs for sports, chess, robotics, core-subject intervention, along with the Friday camp. On 13th September, in one of the most popular camps we have yet witnessed, students availed themselves of a day trip to Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi.

In terms of academic enrichment, we have also provided a series of university trips, in addition to a Year 9 Planting Day, which aims to raise awareness around respect for the environment (one of our PROUD values).

PE News

The SRS PE and Sport Team have had an energetic start to the year. At the lower end of the school, we are delivering weekly, specialist PE and Swimming to Foundation Stage Students. Years 1 to 6 are continuing to enjoy their weekly PE and Swimming lessons, and our Secondary Students are broadening their horizons, experiencing a host of new activities.

SRS Sports Teams are beginning their expanded winter programme with the addition of two new football teams and a netball team! We are very excited about the launch of all 37 SRS Sports Clubs, which will be open to all students and at no cost in the near future!

Big Family:

Held throughout the year, At the School of Research Science, we strive to strengthen the relationship between our school and our families, and between students and their families. Family is a true treasure that never fades away. For this reason, every year we organize an event titled "The Big Family".

Parents join their sons and daughters, and the entire class, for breakfast in the morning and participate in enjoyable activities such as competitions, reading, drawing, and more. This elegant gathering, which has yielded fruitful results and achieved a noble purpose, eis embodied in the noble verse: "And we have made you people and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you."

Educational Day:

30th September
Parent Educational Day:
Parents are the warm embrace of our students. They provide them with good upbringing and a sense of security. Parents are essential partners with the school, exchanging experiences about their children, and achieving mutual goals through collaboration. Let's exchange information, ideas, and support each other on this Parent Educational Day.

Volunteer Day:

Planting at SRS "Mushtal Al-Khair" is a student-led activity aimed at promoting volunteerism through gardening and improving the school environment. This initiative encourages students to engage in planting trees and plants, while contributing to the beautification of the school. "Mushtal Al-Khair" seeks to instill values of generosity and environmental responsibility in students, making the school a greener and more sustainable place.

Goals:
• Foster a spirit of volunteerism and giving: Encourage students to volunteer and work together to improve green spaces within the school.
• Enhance the school environment: Contribute to making the school more beautiful and welcoming for everyone.
• Strengthen teamwork and collaboration skills: Encourage students to work together towards a common goal, developing their communication and cooperation skills.
• Build a sense of community: Strengthen the connection between students, staff, and the school by working together on a shared project that benefits everyone.

Mural Project Celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday: A Huge Success!

• The Welfare Office is pleased to announce the successful completion of a collaborative project between the Welfare, Art, and Islamic Departments in celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. Initially envisioned as a mural, the project transformed into the creation of six stunning paintings, each highlighting the exceptional artistic talents of our gifted students.
• The project was a true collaboration between departments, with the Art and Islamic teams working closely to ensure that the paintings not only captured the creativity of our students but also reflected the cultural and religious significance of the event. Each painting beautifully depicted different aspects of the Prophet’s life and journey, offering a meaningful visual tribute.
• Our students dedicated their free time at school to plan and execute these remarkable pieces, showcasing their commitment and passion. The paintings were unveiled during the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday celebration, serving as a powerful reminder of both the event and the talents within our school.
• The Welfare Office would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts and looks forward to more opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration that enrich our school’s cultural and artistic environment.

Commercial Souq

SRS as part of its Investing in Futures (IIF) and entrepreneurial programmes has established ‘Commercial Souk’ events, which have been running for several years.
Commercial means involving or relating to the buying and selling of goods. Moving forward this year these events will be open and available for students to participate from Year 4 to 13.

Students in entrepreneurship programmes will develop the ability to identify problems in their community and apply their knowledge and skills to solve them.

They will learn how to work with other people, communicate ideas, and develop solutions that are practical for the chosen market. They will develop a deeper understanding of all aspects of business planning and the financial aspects of a running a business including profit and loss.

The benefits of the souks support our students to be creative, innovative and come up with original ideas. There will be an element of competitiveness just as in the world of business.
Students will understand budgeting, designing and creating a pitch, marketing and selling their goods or services and the value for money concept.
They will hone their decision-making skills whilst having the opportunity to support social enterprise projects or charities too.
