Understanding the World, One Decision at a Time

Economicsaaaaaa
At the School of Research Science, Economics is more than charts and theories—it’s a way of understanding how the world works. Our students explore real-world challenges, build analytical skills, and gain the tools to think like economists. From daily decisions to global shifts, we help students connect economics to their lives and futures.

Preparing Students for Life

Through a knowledge-rich curriculum, students learn to interpret complex ideas, engage with current events, and challenge economic assumptions. They develop the ability to analyse data, construct arguments, and evaluate solutions. Our approach fosters curiosity, independence, and the critical thinking that universities and employers value.

Teacher Insight

"Science helps students see the world through questions, not assumptions. It empowers them to wonder, investigate, and solve. Skills that last far beyond the classroom."

Impact

These skills extend beyond academics, preparing students for future success in university studies, careers in business or government, and informed citizenship.

Key Stages 4

Economics is offered as an elective subject. Students study three hours per week to prepare for the IGCSE qualification from Edexcel. In Year 10, the focus is on microeconomics and foundational concepts; in year 11, students explore macroeconomics and the role of government. Each year is divided into four units, with assessments based on content mastery. Weekly vocabulary quizzes and extended writing tasks support depth and clarity.

Key Stage 5

Students study six hours per week toward the Edexcel International GCE qualification. Year 12 covers both micro and macroeconomics, while Year 13 builds on core theories. The course is organised into four units per year, with progress tracked through end-of-unit assessments, weekly practice questions, timed essays, and mock exams.
